Title : Reinventing global inspection: Digitalization and advanced reporting in oil & gas

Abstract:

Inspection of Oil & Gas equipment and bulk materials at manufacturers’ premises is a critical activity in global EPC projects, traditionally characterised by fragmented processes, limited visibility, and manual, time-consuming reporting. This paper presents a practical approach to transforming inspection into a data-driven, value-generating function through digitalisation and advanced reporting.

At Técnicas Reunidas, Inspection Digitalisation initiatives have been implemented through an integrated Inspection Management Application (IMA), enabling end-to-end control of inspection processes—from planning and expediting at vendor locations to execution, reporting, and performance monitoring. The solution incorporates digital workflows, real-time data capture, and advanced dashboards, providing full visibility over inspection status, quality metrics, and project KPIs across global supply chains.

In addition, the paper outlines the ongoing development of AI-based agent solutions aimed at future implementation. These initiatives are focused on improving process efficiency and reducing execution time by automating repetitive tasks, streamlining reporting, and supporting data analysis. The approach is designed to ensure that automation will be complemented by human monitoring and validation, maintaining full control and reliability in critical inspection activities.

The results demonstrate significant improvements in efficiency, reporting accuracy, traceability, and decision-making speed, while enhancing collaboration among inspection teams, vendors, agencies, and stakeholders worldwide. This work highlights how the combination of digital platforms, data-driven reporting, and future AI-assisted automation can transform vendor inspection into a strategic asset for project delivery and operational excellence in the Oil & Gas industry.
