Title : Accelerating Petronas upstream data modernization: Powering production field lifecycle data digitalization through efficient data management
Abstract:
Data management has become increasingly essential for business to operate successfully in the digital age in which data plays a critical role as valuable asset that enables data-driven decision making, process efficiency improvement and generating innovative insights.
As regulator and host authority for all hydrocarbon resources in Malaysia, Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) is monitoring and evaluate their assets’ performance through AMIR (Asset Management Integrated Review) which covering from subsurface to surface.
Leveraging on existing data submission platform (ODU) with the aim to optimize platform utilization and minimal change management on bpw which enable faster technology adoption to promote data driven culture.
A total of 54 data entities with different hierarchy and submission frequencies were identified which covering subsurface, surface and finance during the assessment process. These data entities were analysed together with Subject Matter Expert (SME) to have better understanding on the nature of each data entities and relationships with other data components. Continuous iteration on data model and standardization are crucial for ensuring accurate and consistence data capture and analysis.
ODU-AMIR data submission has been successfully deployed to 18 Malaysia Operators around 600 users which has improved on data availability that facilitate AMIR review session. The seamless, automated, structured data has enables user to have proactive monitoring and surveillance within their fingertips and create more valuable insights/decision. This has also achieved PCE improvement of 89% through reduction time in data extraction and consolidation.
In conclusion, this paper illustrates overview on data digitalization transformation and the journey of conceptualization, standardization, development, and implementation of this data submission platform along with best practices, challenges and lesson learnt. This has facilitate business user to have access to high quality, actionable data to make faster business decision with greater confidence.
