Title : Electrical network monitoring system / Integrated motor control system

Abstract:

Building up a refinery comes with complexity of controlling and monitoring electrical network in terms of cost, safety, availability and power quality. Mainly when it includes such a high demand of electrical power, the ELECTRICAL NETWORK MONITORING CONTROL SYSTEM (ENMC) and INTEGRATED MOTOR CONROL SYSTEM(IMCS) are introduced to our refinery.

In general, The ENMC system is designed to obtain electrical system data, alarms, events and recording. In addition to that, it has the capability to control the electrical system depending on the design and configuration provided as per specifications. The ENMC system has introduced a lot of benefits to the Electrical Network as it provides easy access to the Network, provides more safety to the operators, stores all operations, alarms and trips in the system and can be implemented for budget control for all electrical equipment.

Integrated Motor Control System (IMCS) is basically a microprocessor-based Motor/Feeder Protection, Control and Monitoring System. It has the capability to extract detailed report in case of any motor failure or any alarms. The design of the IMCS are such that minimum time to rectify (MTTR) is kept to a minimum. For this, suitable Plug-in Modules are preferred over conventionally wired ones. The minimum time between failures (MTBF) of critical units are also kept to a minimum of 150,000 hrs.

IMCS provides dual redundancy to minimize any information lost in case of any component failure and the system has reduced amount of communication cables which can aid in reducing maintenance time and have ensure a more organized system. Furthermore, it serves as a getaway between Electrical, Instrument and Operations Teams.
