Title : Environmental assessments and their impact on air, water, and soil by petroleum activities (Libyan Case Study)

Abstract:

Exploration, development, production, product treatment, and waste management activities associated with oil and gas production projects can have a variety of impacts on the environment. They include destruction or alteration of wildlife habitats, erosion, sedimentation, pollutant loading of groundwater and surface water from product and/or waste leaks and Oil spills, groundwater contamination from communication between production or waste injection zones and underground sources of drinking water, release of hydrocarbons and hydrogen sulfide to the atmosphere, and decreased soil productivity from land spreading and/or releases of reserve/mud pit contents. The Case study (Waha Oil Company) focus on environmental impacts of oil and gas activities such as Soil , Atmospheric emissions and Source Water, which includes ,Assessment of Impacts & approach ,Determination of appropriate Mitigation measures &Propose the standard international measure to minimize the Impacts.

For each significant impact, a wide range of mitigation measures has been reviewed and considered to help decision-makers to choose the best attractive mitigation alternatives practically and economically.

Eventually, as can be seen from our investigation with regard to the environment as a results of our activity ( drilling of an exploration well & production operations), various hazard and risk are associated which could lead to a great impact on the environment especially water underground sources of drinking water as well as release hydrogen sulfide to the atmosphere, it is therefore very vital in any project such as this to assess the level of these risks and thereby providing a way of minimizing the impact to the environment. In doing so we have to have a good environmental management planning and strategy in order to reduce or minimize the effect of those issues under a specific standard international measures From the paper finding, the following recommendation can be adopted, firstly, Latest new techniques should be followed in order to avoid indiscriminate disposal of waste, secondly ,Stick adherence to all environmental laws and regulations ,Thirdly, A competent management and planning personal should be put in place to tackle any environmental issues.
