Title : Production and completion technologies- Ways to optimize process Comprehensive report on CBA#11 well operations and significance of casing patch and fish recovery operations

Abstract:

This paper presents a comprehensive report of a case study on the well operations conducted on well CBA#11 that was taken into workover job, focusing particularly on the significance of casing patch and fish recovery operations. The well, situated in the Chabua structure, underwent extensive workover activities from November 17th, 2023, to February 28th, 2024, utilizing the CH#15 workover rig. The primary objective was to plug back existing perforations and test the viability of the higher 3636-m LK + Th Sand (CBA001D Block). The paper details the historical background of the well, outlining its initial completion in May 2006 at the 3646 m Lk + Th sand, followed by subsequent challenges, including pressure issues during packer testing and low productivity due to poor inflow. To address these issues, decisions were made to plug back existing sands and assess higher formations.

Various job details and well complications encountered during the operations are discussed, including challenges with packer release attempts and tubing fish recovery. The most critical aspect of the operation involved the casing patch job, essential for restoring casing integrity, particularly considering the presence of untested sands. The process involved recovering damaged casing, installing a cement plug, and applying a casing patch with new joints.Following the casing patch and fishing operations, well logging, perforation and production testing were conducted, revealing promising results in terms of oil saturation and overall bonding across relevant sand zones. Further operations included plugging back the well with a cement plug and perforating higher formations. The significance of each operation is analyzed in terms of its impact on well integrity, productivity, financial aspects and overall operational success. The paper concludes with a summary of the achieved objectives and future considerations for optimizing well performance and productivity.
