Title : Hydrocarbon reservoir delineation in Rio Del Rey Basin (RDR) – CAMEROON
Abstract:
The Rio Del Rey (RDR) is a coastal sedimentary basin located at the eastern edge of the Benue Trough contributing to 90% of petroleum production in Cameroon. It has a complex structural deformation and faulting system, making the maximum recovering of hydrocarbon from a given reservoir a big challenge for Cameroon petroleum companies. The structural interpretation and reservoir delineation are undoubtably part of the key researches conducted for proper exploration. Previous analysis carried on in RDR were based on the well data making the knowledge on reservoirs system still limited. Recently, Total company collected the 3D seismic data unclosing the opportunity for comprehensive understanding of subsurface geology of the basin. The present research intends to perform a combined interpretation of seismic and well data in order to unfold the presence of reservoirs and their new extension. Horizons and fault interpretation were carried out to identify the southern extension and new limit of each reservoir in the basin. The procedure involves interpretation of seismic data, seismic well tie, analysis of the seismic cross sections provide insight on the complexity of the hydrocarbon hosting units and clarify the extension of reservoirs. The well logs and end-of-well reports provided relevant information needed to identify various reservoirs of interest. The findings confirm the presence of deltaic sand across the basin with degradation southwards. The seismic cross sections reveal series of growing faults trending W-E and indicate new promising zones for hydrocarbon accumulation. The seismic data have clearly helped to performed new reservoir delineation.
