Title : The innovation of pinch technology energy optimization towards operational excellence
Abstract:
Essentially, the economic growth throughout the world and specifically in the Middle East in oil and Gas Sector increased the conduction of Research, development, utilization technologies and practices focusing on cost-efficient, support products sustainability and profitability goals to reach Green Operations, creating a positive environmental impact, and involving innovative products and processes. Oil and natural gas remain the world's leading fuels, accounting for nearly 55% of global energy consumption. As per IPCC (intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, trend Green House Gases (GHG) emission Chart1) Energy Systems produce the highest emissions quantities compared to other drivers and at the top as a source in GHG emissions value. The greenhouse effect is the way in which heat is trapped close to Earth's surface by “greenhouse gases. The implementation of new technologies is one way to control and mitigate GHG. Since, the dehydration unit consumes a relatively high amount energy in either in the reboiler or the chiller (cooler). This Paper will compromise the application of Pinch Technology for energy optimization and revamping an existing Dehydration unit energy consumption of the Facility. Pinch Technology can be simply defined as a systematic methodology based on thermodynamic principles for energy saving in processes and total sites resulting in minimizing the usage of utilities and the number of heat exchangers, and obtaining targets with Minimum Energy Requirement and Maximum Energy. Assessing results using Promax software simulation for a real case study on a Gas Dehydration Unit located in KOC BS-131, whereas Pinch Technology Excellence saving 87% of the energy consumed in the facility contributing towards green operations and operational excellence.
