Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is a versatile and eco-friendly energy source that plays a pivotal role in the global energy landscape. LNG is a clear, colourless, and non-toxic liquid formed by cooling natural gas to extremely low temperatures, around -260°F (-162°C), at which point it undergoes a transformation from a gaseous to a liquid state, reducing its volume for easier and more economical storage and transportation. This process involves removing impurities and condensates, resulting in a high-purity fuel with a significantly reduced volume, making it feasible for international trade and long-distance transportation. One of the key advantages of LNG lies in its energy density, as a small volume of LNG can contain a large amount of energy, making it an efficient and cost-effective fuel. LNG has gained popularity as a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels, emitting fewer greenhouse gases and pollutants when burned. Its versatility extends beyond electricity generation to various sectors, including transportation, industrial processes, and residential use. The global LNG market has experienced substantial growth, with numerous countries investing in liquefaction and regasification infrastructure to facilitate the trade of LNG on a global scale.
